Mail: Boycott Exxon Mobil

3:28 PM Mon, May 08, 2006 |

We receive a lot of e-mail and letters here at KING 5, and we're going to start posting a few of them right here on Blogger KING. To get things started, R.H. in Elma, Washington copied us on a letter he sent to Exxon Mobil. It reflects some of the anger that many people are feeling in light of rising gas prices and skyrocketing oil company profits:

Dear Sir:

Concerning your company's "record profit." I am just an ordinary ole American citizen. I would consider myself on the lower end of "middle class," even bordering on "poverty class." My wife and I are both on disability Social Security. Our income is very limited and very fixed.

I just want you to know, personally, I consider Exxon Mobil the "enemy of Americans."

You sir, are worse than the terrorist that attacked America on 9/11. They had the "guts" to take on America in a VERY REAL WAY. You and your company, and ALL the other oil industry leaders are cowardly weasels, hiding behind your big desks and big profits.

I will try my hardest to get everyone I know to boycott Exxon Mobil. I would dearly love to see Exxon Mobil have record losses, and even go out of business. I would love to see and hear about you and your family having to go on federal welfare.

You are a cheat and a liar!!! Gasoline should NEVER have gone of $1.00 a gallon. Justice WILL BE DONE!!! You may be smiling now, but justice WILL extract its due.

R.H.

Cory,

This is about the lowest form of useless journalism that exists. We don't need someone's emotional response to high gas prices! I don't like them either, and I don't know anyone who does! Please, don't insult the intelligence of our audience.

What we expect from the press is the real facts! Get off your backside and go find out if we're really being ripped off by the oil companies and, if so, by how much and for how long. That would be useful information.

Thanks BB for your feedback.

This is a new addition that doesn't supplant our reporting. It's similar to a newspaper's "letters to the editor" section.

We feel it's important to give our viewers and users a voice instead of doing what most television stations do: read the email and hit "delete."

Boycotting any gasoline company is not the answer. It is my understanding that if we don't buy from one company another one will become stronger, therefore we still have the same problem. I agree, it would be more productive to find out if we are being ripped off as the previous comment states.

This morning watching the Today show I saw they where featuring an interview with Matt and Mary Kay L. (the teacher who raped her student). I had to change channels because it made me sick to think that the Network would honor and the discussing situation on Memorial Day.
The Today Show should have offer apologes to viewers for the sick interview. I also hope that KING5 will not put that on your news cast tonight. If you do, I will change the channel and know you are sick too.
