Do you know your neighbor? Sure we may smile and wave, but in this modern world where we cocoon ourselves with our iPods, pay at the pump and rely on an ATM instead of a human teller, but do we really know our neighbors? On Fircrest's Farralone Avenue they do. When my photographer and I pulled up to cover the story of young Anthony Pantoja's brush with a would-be carjacker, not only did everyone know about it, just hours earlier they were helping subdue the suspect until police arrived. When trouble called on Farralone Avenue, the neighbors would have none of it... "Oh, the Pantoja's, they're at a Rainiers game," said one neighbor. It wasn't because he was nosy. It was because he cared enough to know how the young man and his family was doing. We all (OK, those of us of a certain age) rememer Gladys Kravitz the busybody up the street from Samantha Stevens (if you have to ask, don't), but these people have genuine concern for their neighbors. And they didn't think twice to step in and get involved. We could all learn a lesson from the folks on Farralone Avenue and get to know thy neighbor. 2 Comments |
My neighbors were Mormons.... (Nuff said)
I believe that every man and woman is entitled to their own opinion. But this Army Officer that refuses to go to war greatly upsets me. In the Army it does not matter what your opinion is, you do what your Comander and Chief tells you to do, if you dont like it, vote for someone else in the next election. This guy signed up for the Army he was not drafted, he should have thought about the possibilites of war before he signed the contract. He should be court marshled and punished, there are thousands of men and woman over there fighting for their country and dying for their country, they may not agree with the war but they are fighting for their lives and for their country because that is what the president asked them to do. This guy should be ashamed of himself and lucky another soldier hasnt kicked his you know what. He is a discrace and a coward and should not consider himself an american or even an american soldier at that!
