Extra cash for more legroom Bookmark and Share

The next time you book a flight on Northwest airlines, would you pay an extra $15 bucks per flight to get a more desirable seat? No, not a first class upgrade, but just a better coach seat? Like certain aisle seats or in a seat in an exit row with more legroom? Northwest posted the new add-on option on its website today, along with a picture of a seating chart. The green seats cost more.

Northwest isn't the only airline tacking on extra fees to pull in more revenue. Some of the add-ons are subtle. At United for example, it's $25 more for a heavy bag weighing over 50 pounds instead of 70 pounds. Two dollars to check your baggage at the curb. Each.

Northwest says its "Coach Choice" plan is a test and only covers about 5 percent of the seats on board. Do you think it will fly?

Rather pay for a private carrier to fly me to my destination. It is actually an equivalent price if you stay on the west coast.

Yes I would. It's worth it for not only the extra room but the convenience of getting up without disturbing and crawling over one or two other passengers.

Hell No! Those Exit row seats and the aisle seats haven't changed from yesterday to today. They just decided that for the privelege of not being uncomfortable and getting a blood clot in your leg, you might be willing to pay extra $$ just because they CAN charge you. They bring down the price to lure you in and then stick it to you with the nickle and diming.

I will go to an above board airline who wont treat me like a second class citizen. I am also informing all my friends and family to stay away from Northwest AND United ... who charges an outrageous $25.

Yes, without hesitation.

Paying extra for a few more inches is like paying for first class. It's always the same ol' thing - "Anything for a buck."

No way! Find another solution to generate your revenue.

My comment has nothing to do with this article but why doesn't united states has a code adam alert? Canada does and they caught the person from taking a 3 month old baby..

If you really think about it the airlines have been undercharging for the flights as it is with the rise in the price of fuel. If the current administration would do something about the price of oil the airfares would go down. The profit margin on a ticket is small so the airlines have to add on where they can to generate revenue. The travelling public has gotten spoiled with the extremly low airfares since deregulation that they feel that they should be able to fly for next to nothing with all of the amenities. Try and get a ticket for the same price on greyhound or amtrack if you don't want to pay the airlines price.

I think Northwest and United have made my choice a little easier. I will be flying with anyone except them. I just book a flight for the 19th but not with them. I fly several; times a year and for the last two years most planes were full. My plane to Houston is book solid and the one to Vegas is almost full. Hard to believe with all the cut backs and having full seats they are screaming poverty. I also notice they are buying a lot of new airplanes. Sorry I don’t buy it. I will vote my acceptance with the traveling dollars in my pocket. NW and United “greed won’t get my bucks".
