Ridgway made a deal to escape the death penalty. But did he really give a full confession?
In his new book, Seattle University Professor Tomas Guillen alleges that Ridgway didn't tell all, as the public thought. Rather, Guillen says, police and prosecutors were frustrated at his lack of candor and he charges that Ridgway should not have escaped the death penalty. Prosecutors however, say Ridgway's confession to 48 murders and the details he did give, brought closure to families of victims. Did authorities make the right call? If Ridgway didn't give a full confession, was the deal still fair?
My theory is that he probably kept a lot of secrets to use later if needed. Why spill all and have nothing left? I think he played a lot of games with police and investigators during his trial process, the ball was in his court, and he knew that they *needed* him in order to find answers to some unsolved crimes. He obviously has some sort of a power complex as it is, why not use it once again.
As for whether it was a fair deal, in my opinion, they probably got more information from him than they would have if they'd put him to death, so for the families that it has given peace to, it was fair. Life in prison isn't going to be easy for him either. Perhaps he'll shed light on other unsolved mysteries as he gets older and wants a few more moments of fame. One can only hope.

"What could I have done to have kept this from happening?" There are no doubt that these families still have sleepless nights thinking or dreaming about this!
I think Gary Ridgway got way more than a fair deal and to think that we the residents of King County paid for this creeps mass amounts of lawyers fees and now we get to pay for his keep for the rest of his life, makes my skin crawl!

I just want to mention that I personally know of someone that has been accused of a crime,put in jail and was corerced into pleading guilty when this person was not guilty at all.Snohomish county is well known for their convictions and most and I mean atleast 70% are not guilty and are made to plea guilty.Especially if they have a public defender.If you cannot afford an attorney and you are arrested for something you did not do but were accused of the crime,you will be found guilty with the help of your public defender.In snohomish County you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.I think the whole judicial system in snohomish county is crooked and is out for one thing and that is revenue only.We need to investigate the snohomish county prosecuters office along with the public defenders office for coersion and dishonesty.There are many people in jail today that just should not be there and there is nobody to turn to for help if you cannot afford an attorney.I know first hand as I am involved in a case I have been accused of.My public defender had me pleading guilty and had me on my way to prison because he could not take the time to defend me.I am not guilty and thank god I have a father inlaw that believes me and put up $10,000.00 dollars for an attorney for me.There are many people in jail that cannot afford to do this so therefore they are convicted and sentenced to prison.When do we do something about this?When can we defend ourselves against not having any money?Why are the poor persicuted and hidden away from the rest?Why is it if you have money you can stay free.If you look at the scenerio you will see that a good percent of the folks in jail are Black.Why is that?Because most of them have no money.Therefore they are imprisoned.Something is wrong with this picture and something must be done to protect the innocent especially if they have no money.I wished you would just investigate this,spend some time in the snohomish county court house,talk with the inmates.Look into this please?? Knock them off of their high horse,make them do right!
