Terrell Owens a 'train wreck'

5:15 PM Mon, Nov 07, 2005 |

Good move by the Eagles to dump Owens for the rest of the season. This guy had a prime opportunity to build off his gutty performance at the Super Bowl. Instead, he's now worse off than he was when he left San Francisco. And in a strange sort of way, he's become a role model of how "not" to behave...

Young athletes can look at this train wreck of an individual and learn from his antics. It's called learning from other people's mistakes. Owens has always been selfish and rarely been a team player. And you can never trust him as a teammate, because you never know when he's gonna throw you under the bus.

Having said all that, you know Owens will wind up playing for another team next season. The question is: Which team will be the next to take a chance on him?

Terrell Owens is just one of growing number of supremely talented athletes who forgot, or never knew what athletics is all about. I finally got tired of all the unsportmanlike behavior. The increasing amount of athletes who turn a routine play into a epic drama of celebration is no longer entertaining but monotonous. Owens firmly believe he is bigger than the team and finally someone has let him know he is not.

Owens will be picked up by a last place team with salary cap space or an almost contender who believes he is the one ingredient that will put them over the top. Some coach will think he is somehow different than the many coaches before him that were unable to get through Terrell that football is a team sport. In any case whoever picks him up will be disappointed in the long run. The old adage, "Fool me once shame on you, fool my twice shame on me," will hold true again and some new teach will be fooled into thinking Owens actually cares about the team concept.

The main irony of the situation by acting so selfishly and foolishly he has guaranteed that whoever picks him up will not have to pay him anywhere near what he could have made had he actually been a team player. He is always complaining about what he is paid. Next time he should yell at himself.

If there's sanity in Seattle Seahawks management and from the bits & pieces I've heard, NOT our beloved (NFC West-champion bound) Seattle Seahawks...
