The view from the puck

11:04 AM Wed, Oct 26, 2005 |

Lake Placid, NY -- Giddy with the success of the lipstick cam on the luge sled, we push the boundaries of videotape even farther with the introduction of the "Mop Cam" or as we dubbed it, the "MC 695." It is day 4 here in Lake Placid for the intrepid news team of Allen Schauffler (that's him in the picture with the camera on the mop) and myself, and first up is 9 a.m. hockey practice with the women’s national team...

Here I am mounting the lipstick cam to the mop.

A closer look at the fine workmanship that goes into process.

Next we test for level horizon and focus using a stand-in puck.

Kelly Stevens from Shoreline is a forward on the squad and our mission is capture some dramatic shots of her in practice.

Alana is an assistant coach and great skater. We cajole her into chasing Kelly Stevens around the rink during drills.

The results are impressive: an up close pucks eye view of the action! When we return to Seattle, we'll post the video here on Blogger KING.

Next we rig for a POV of the puck itself.

Mr. Schauffler has hockey experience and will speed the MC 695 down the rink at breakneck speed into the net.

Icing the puck is a foul.

Closing shot: Allen Schauffler and the MC 695 working hard to bring you up close and personal to your Olympic Athletes.
