I think that's the fundamental question. Either these are miscalculations, or he's fully aware that he's diving head-on into controversy. I suspect he's fully aware when he takes a controversial stand, such as proposing a statewide income tax. After the story aired, I heard the Sims campaign was upset at the line. At first, I couldn't understand why. But then, I read the sentence again and realized the interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. It could be interpreted as "It's not clear...whether he's fully aware of what he's doing." My mistake; the sentence was not clear and I corrected it for all future airings. But I think the intent of the question is good start for discussion. What's your thought? Are these miscalculations? Or should voters give Sims credit for being one of the few politicians around, gutsy enough to say what he really thinks? 16 Comments |
"Should voters give Sims credit for being one of the few politicians around, gutsy enough to say what he really thinks?"
That's not enough to ensure democracy, where every vote has a voter and is counted. That's enough for talk radio, though.
Councilor David Irons - http://www.davidirons.org - on the other hand will speak his mind and take charge.
Elected officials should express their subjectivity. Voters want to know what their elected representatives think (statesmen recognize this, politicians do not). Representatives that get elected, otherwise, are frauds.
So kudos to Mr. Sims for speaking his mind, but gross waste and misuse of funds, until recently, was just cause for termination of employment, and in some cases, incarceration. How can an electoral populus vote for anyone that squanders MILLIONS of taxpayor $$$$$ (re: $40 million spent on an accounting system upgrade that didn't get done, and now Mr. Sims is asking for significantly more than $40 million to try again, only now he is saying that TWO software applications are needed, and has selected Oracle and People Soft, two companies that recently merged, and haven't even had adequate time to define how the two will work together, or if they will even be able to. Mr. Sims says he has a plan this time. OJT for the County Executive is the most expensive training that I have ever encountered; perhaps I should open a training firm). Too bad this Bush Administration is so inept and corrupt. Now, it seems that inept Democrats can make gross errors in management, and still win the election. So keeping speaking you mind, Mr. Sims; nevermind the job. BTW, How much is the juice on a training contract?
We are independants and will not vote for Sims who seems to think every neighborhood should have a commercial airport. We think it is about SW pac money for Ron Sims. Where does Ron live? I bet he will not propose 170+ flights a day for that neighborhood.
Vote for David Irons
Between his failed payroll system, his corrupt auditor's office, his medical examiner selling body parts and his general lack of ethics I would say he is the slowest learner to come along in a while. How much more will we allow him to screw up before we show him the door?
Surprise, surprise - all the posters so far here are Irons fanatics!

No, just fanatics for competence in government and leadership. Sims has set the bar so low that anyone is better than what we have!
Me too, anon.
Supposedly David Irons is 47 to Sims' 43 from your polling data. Is this true?
I think what scares me is that Dean Login is beholden to Ron Sims and I believe he will do whatever it takes to make sure Sims is re-elected so he, Login can keep his job.
Ron Sims has done more harm to the private property owner and our rights than anyone ever to have had his job.
His Socialist mind set are frightening. He is owned by the enviromental movement, and if allowed another term we will not have any rights left. The Constitution means nothing to him.
I believe he knows exactly what he's doing when he pushes through his agenda.
After the 2004 election fraud that he helped put over on the voters of KC, that then effected the whole State, he has to go!
BM
He and Dean Logan (the shoe salesman) are now stonewalling an elections records request. There is fraud there and they don't want it out before November!!!

I can't really figure out why Ron Sims keeps getting elected except for the facts that Wetsern Washington is so staunchly democratic and that the Republicans can't seem to find an articulate high school graduate to run against him (the Charlie Chong effect). This guy is a complete failure as a public servant: as Chariman of the Sound Transit board, Sims steered the organization into sqaundering tens of millions of dollars to the degree that both state and federal agencies opened probes into their practices, Sims was a key player in bringing the WTO to Seattle (worked out great for us), and as County Executive ( as moted in comments above), with his failed payroll system, his corrupt auditor's office, his medical examiner selling body parts and his general lack of ethics I would say Sims is a total loser.
Seattle just needs to get a friggin' clue. I've can't think of another city with this size of population that doesn't have a decent transportation system. Yeah sure, we went from #5 on the most congested per capita list to #16, but that's not because things got any better around here, just that things got worse everywhere else. The traffic problem here is *HORRIBLE*. Until recently (because I moved) it took me two hours to commute the 15 miles to work. When I lived in Washington DC, my brother had a similar commute, but oily bacause he lived 45 miles outside of the city limits and drove part of the way and then parked and took the subway into downtown! Put simply, the lack of decent transportation alternatives in this region is seriously stunting its economic growth. If our Country Executive doesn't get that, he's useless.
