My mother, and a best friend, in trouble

4:26 PM Tue, Oct 11, 2005 |

If your mom or a best friend were in trouble, you'd get help for them. But if they have breast cancer, sometimes the best you can do is listen. My own mother had breast cancer. That was in an era when women didn't talk about it. So when cancer took her life, I hardly knew how much pain she endured.

One of my best friends, C.J. Taylor lost her mom to breast cancer. Her mom, too, hardly talked about it. But when C.J. got cancer, she not only talked about it, she fought it. Then she started the local Susan G. Komen foundation to help fight breast cancer as a fatal disease -- and has helped thousands of women win the fight, too...

C.J. has another kind of cancer now, ovarian cancer. The two cancers are related, and genetic tests can assess your risk. We in Washington have the highest rate of cancer of anywhere in the country, but we also have a very high rate of successful treatment.

C.J. talks to us at KING 5 deeply, personally. She says not just to help save other lives, but to save families. We will share her insights, and the best new information and treatments there are to save your life. Join us for a HealthLink special, "Breast Cancer: Winning the Battle" Friday night on KING 5 at 8 p.m. Please watch. You might not only save a life, but whole families.
