Hands off breast cancer

4:22 PM Wed, Oct 19, 2005 |

There is a kind of breast cancer that won't necessarily appear as a lump. It might not show up on a mammogram either. But it might be a red, inflamed area of breast skin. It might be an sudden enlargement of one breast. It can be an inverted nipple. It might even be made worse by touching and poking the breast. And it just might be the doctor thinks it is an infection, and will prescribe antibiotics. BEWARE...

Inflammatory breast cancer or IBC is the most aggressive and deadliest form of breast cancer and is often not diagnosed correctly.

So if you have some of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately. Antiobiotics work only for infections. Not for IBC. So if you think that's what you have, ask your doctor to do a biopsy. And don't wait. This could save your life.

Please send me any e-mails regarding breast cancer detection, I try to stay informed thanks to your website and healthlink news. I'm 41 yrs old Alaskan Native and have gone thru 2 surgeries what belived to be breast cancer, thank goodness it came out no cancer. Although things have been good the last 5 1/2 yrs, in this past year I still get a lump on my left breast, I have had it checked thru mamo and ultra sound, I can feel it but they can't see it. I'm stuck with unresolved answers because my doctors belive its due calicum or ?? there not sure, its painful and feel at times its golf ball size and the only comfort now is taking painpills or rest. I feel I cry wolf, but I feel the lump and its not being detected. We have no health insurance now, so I have to be strong and hope nothing becomes of this. Isn't there another form of test or somekind of exam that could help me figure out whats going on. I've survived 2 other surgerories and to date I'm glad to say I going on 3 1/2 years no surgeory.
Another topic may I suggest a topic about Hernia's I had two of them. First one detected as I was carrying my daugher 13yrs ago, the Navy doctors could not fix it while I was in my 9th month and didn't fix it even after giving birth. I walked around with it for 3yrs before realizing it and doctors here on kitsap side didn't know, until I finally found one who knew what it was and fixed me up and said it would not come back, but another did again patched up once again. I'm shocked to here there is a lot a people I've talked to at my job and during volunteering at schools people have the same and didn't know what to do.
