Most viewers are familiar with our roof garden here at KING. It's a lush collection of trees, bushes and flowers that is also home to a well fed collection of songbirds. With plenty of cover from landscaping, the sparrows and chickadees know they're safe. Usually. During a recent 5 pm broadcast, I was in mid-sentence when a very large bird swooped between the camera and my face. It was a Peregrine Falcon in hot pursuit of dinner... We were showing graphics at the time, so no one else witnessed this wildlife drama but myself. As I was in the midst of the broadcast, I didn't have time to see whether the Falcon captured it's intended prey. I do know that the very next day, the Falcon was back, roosting in one of the trees. The songbirds were noticeably absent. Where the sparrows and their cousins couldn't care less about human presence, the Peregrine was noticeably agitated, and took off shortly after I walked out on the deck. Will it be back? I have no idea, but if we get a photo, we'll post it here. 7 Comments |
it's "couldn't" care less.
Not could.
Y'know, Jeff - it would be cool to have a tour of the terrace on a slow news night... share it with the rest of us! Let that camera pan a little!
