The air smelled sweet as my wife, 15-month-old baby girl, and I deplaned the flight from Newark last week. The green trees, blue August sky and shimmering water of Elliott Bay welcomed us. We were home in Seattle! After an exhilirating, and at times daunting 2-1/2-year stint as an anchor/reporter for CNBC in New York and New Jersey, the extended road trip had ended. The life we wanted for our family was being realized and I could not be more thrilled about the opportunity that awaited at KING-TV. The Northwest is my adopted home after working in eight different news markets around the country. It is here I feel a sense of community, a sense of belonging, a place to promote my outdoor passions!! I found this calling even further drove my desire to report the news that matters to my neighbors here in the Northwest... My broadcast duty to this region begins as we say at "0'dark-thirty" in the middle of the night when the alarm goes off at 3 a.m. It's brutally early but I'm already pumped up like the feeling you get on a Friday afternoon with expectations of an exciting weekend. I get to KING-TV before 4 a.m. to get ready for KING 5 News at 5 a.m. The day starts with a warm smile and cheery "Hellllooooooo" from my co-anchor, a great friend Joyce Taylor. What a treat to work with such a sweet and caring person. I settle in with my scripts, the make-up is on (Yuk) the coffee mug is full (a must), the studio lights are warming up, I hear "stand by" and in a flash the satisfying feeling of being back on the air in the Puget Sound region resonates through me. Even the bad news, like the deplorable conditions and tragedy our fellow Americans are enduring in the Gulf States, and other such stories carry more weight knowing you the loyal viewer are counting on us for the information you need. I hold this responsiblity dear. 7 Comments |
Welcome back, Brad!!!!!! We have missed you SO much around these parts. Even though we could see your smilin' face on TV from N.Y., it sure wasn't the same as enjoying your on-air banter & news reporting right here in the Pacific Northwest. I couldn't have been more thrilled yesterday to have seen you back in our area. Stick around this time, will ya?!
Brad! We are so glad to have you back -- it was hard to get up and see you on at 2:00 in the morning -- and you were not nearly as fun! We followed Joyce from Brand "X" and it wasn't the same -- But perhaps there will be a story on about your favorite "Tanya Harding" (tee hee)
Welcome home!

Welcome home!
Welcome Back!
Like others who've posted here, I remember you as co-anchor with Joyce from years back, and was pleasantly surprised to see you on the noon news several days ago!
I enjoy your pleasant and fun manner, and partnered with Joyce, though I like everyone at King 5, is just a perfect match!
Brad,
Welcome back to Seattle! My only reservation is, that as an institutional stockbroker (who needs to stay tuned to CNBC during stock market hours), I don't get to see you anymore! You did a terrific job at CNBC, and Seattle and King 5 are very fortunate to have you back. I'm glad the decision you made is the correct one for your family and your lifestyle. I hope to see you on my days off and, and I hope to bump into you here in Seattle. Good luck!
