Four incumbents are fighting for two spots on the King County Council.

It's a strange and rare political battle, that all began when voters passed an initiative to trim the size of the King County Council from 13 to nine. Two council members decided to run for other jobs, leaving voters to eliminate two other positions. Republicans in the 9th district have a choice of two very different candidates: Former minister Steve Hammond vs. former federal prosecutor Reagan Dunn. Democrats in the 1st district must decide between attorney Bob Ferguson and community activist Carolyn Edmonds. Absentee ballots are now available and the primary is just about one week away.

Carolyn Edmonds was the clear winner---emphasizing her skill as a hard worker and collab orater.

It seemed like Ferguson had no real ideas, just criticizes every one else.

Bob is a great guy, has integrity, but can not be effective on the council with those in power treating him as an outcast. The leaders in control do not like him because he advocated shrinking the council, targeted the Chair of the council and beat her, and has defied them on occasion. To show you how much they liked her after he beat Sullivan Sims hired her at the same pay to a puff job.

Carol, on the other hand, is an underhanded, dirty dealing, dishonest "Chicago Style" bureaucrat. She panders to special interest groups at the expense of her constituents and sells out to big money. Her top campaign contributors range from oil money, media money, Brightwater contractors, and many other special interest groups. Her claim to be a “grass roots” activist is laughable, she is anything but.

She has been behind every fiasco at King County in some way, a sock puppet for Sims and the council leadership. She is on record supporting Logan as doing good work and was behind the push to spend $22 million on a new building for elections, something that crashed and burned by a 12-1 vote.

Neither one of these is a good choice in November, but in September the people need to say no to the way King County is being managed and send Carol packing.

I saw the debate last night and WHAT WAS STEVE HAMMOND SMOKING??? The top priority of law enforcement and first response units is to ***SAVE LIVES*** not save property. What would've happened on 9/11 if the NYPD and NY Fire Department decided they were going to protect Macy's? We probably would've had 3,000 more dead.

If this is the kind of stuff that Hammond introduces on the Council, every voter -- Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, Libertarian, Natural Law Party (Natural Lawyer?), or Wacko LaRouchie -- had better stand up and take notice. Vote 'NO' on Hammond.

On September 11th I sent an e-mail to all the Metropolitan King County Council Members on a King County property tax levy and I received one reply of September 12th from Carolyn Edmonds, District 1 see wrote;
“I agree with you and will be voting no. Carolyn Edmonds, District 1” a few hours later she voted yes.
You should try e-mailing any of your State, County, City or any elected official and see if you get a response. Don't count on it.

Warner Loyd said:

Evan: The levy they voted on was different than the original proposal. There was evidently a compromise. Here is Edmonds quote from the County Council website: “I've fought hard to ensure that our most venerable residents are not left behind. Today we have ensured that low-income seniors, the disabled, and victims of domestic violence will get additional help. This compromise levy is far from perfect, but it is a vast improvement over the original exclusionary measure that left behind many of our most needy and vulnerable residents.”

My e-mail stated that "I' am oppose to any Property Tax Special Levy"

Maybe I should have been a little more clearer in my prior response.

Mr. Salinger was not listening closely to Councilman Hammond. He said the first priority of Law Enforcement was to maintain order so that Firefighters and EMS would be able to do their jobs. He also said that Law Enforcement Officer would, of course, help someone in distress first. I agree with Michelle as to the winners of the debates......Steve Hammond and Bob Ferguson
