We're happy to announce we've launched a new and improved KING5.com home page. Our goal is to make it easier for you to find the day's best stories and video. We added more news headlines, a "Video on Demand" section and a customized weather feature that provides the forecast for your zip code. You can also click on "video forecast" along the top of the home page to watch KING 5 meteorologists bring you up to date on the latest weather conditions. And finally, we cut down on the clutter and simplified the page. Take a look around, and please give us your feedback by clicking "comments" below. 47 Comments |
I dont like it. Looks boring, really too "static". My eyes just glean over everything captivating no interest. Also get rid of registering for access. "BUGMENOT.COM" for log in access!!!
Registration rocks! I like to be welcomed and see my name on the top of the page. The redesign looks a lot cleaner, sleeker, and its easier to find what I'm looking for.
I love the Video on Demand section - thats exactly the area I needed so I can pick what I want to watch AND I like the new Video button instead of the video camera icon.
Good work KING 5 people.
Here's from a loyal King 5 viewer. One thing I would love to see in a more visible place, is the current temp! Thanks.
I also do not like the new format of the website. I read this website many times every day and I find this format much more cluttered and it is harder to find the news I am looking for. In the old format everything was clearly divided and I was able to easily find the news. I find with the new format I have to search a bit longer. While I do like the new graphics and colors, I do not like the new layot.
Hey Dudette, WELCOME!!! Register... you've got to be kidding...Regarding you like to be welcomed and like to see your name: You must've been or still are neglected to need this kind of trivial attention.
The old page was much easier to read. Nothing stands out with the new format.
I do like the new format. The same things aren't posted all over the front page in several locations. My only suggestions are: as another person said, post the current temperature, the top of the page is missing something, maybe just enlarging the First alert weather strip, you definately could use more color on the top of the page, the live doppler pic is too small, very hard to see weather over any particular location, also, maybe on the top left you can put pics of your newsteam, just to make it a bit more personal. Overall, its awesome, just some more color on the header of the page. Great Job.
I love the new look! Much simpler, cleaner- not as cluttered as before. It's much easier to scan to the headlines. I especially like having quick access to so many Top Stories without having to scroll down. Great improvements, thanks!!
I love the site! All the stories I'd ever care about are above the fold - PLUS the video on demand is a great feature!
Why does the registration matter? Just make up your information and move on. It's really not worth a fuss.
It's pretty cool! It doesn't really catch the reader's eye, however. I'd try putting up a few more pictures with the headlines.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It wasn't broke and you shouldn't have fixed it. Go back to the old format. This one is way too sterile.
Only read the front page because of registration. Now that won't display because you programmed your site not to display on computers not running JavaScript. I guess after 49 years of King5 It's bye bye.
Do not like it at all, more difficult to read and very sterile and bland. Look at Fox news for ideas, very starightforward and easy to navigate. More of the other stations now.
I happened to catch one of your newscasts lately and the new website was mentioned. Still won't use it because you require registration. Yours is still "cutting edge" requiring registration. I'll go back to the other news sites that don't.
don.t like the new format, bring back the old way that worked
Big improvement! Much easier to browse and get to the news you want.
Do not like new website, husband is legally blind has a hard time reading, so this makes looking at the news too hard for him to read, please go back to old one.
I do not like the small print. Because of the small print, I have to go to another local station to read the top stories, though I feel your reporting is the best. I also think the new page is very boring. It does not seem to change much from hour to hour, even when I know there is updated news from listening to the radio. The weather is way too small to see clearly. Please enlarge the print, at least. I'll try it again then.
I do not like the bland, boring web site. I am thinking about changing my home page. To boring! To white, and sterile.
The new format Sucks, just like cable TV!
Go back to the old format and leave things alone.
Did you focus group before making the change > And were they all color blind ? If amazes me that with all of the graphic tech. available today you put something as bland as this up. Love KING 5 news, love komotv.com because its to the point with headlines and news.
I don't like this one. I used to be loyal to this site. It's too hard to find what I'm looking for and I liked seeing the pictures. As said before, if it's not broke, don't fix it.
It's fine, but I don't like that you can't back out of the website. Not cool.
I don't care for the new look. The old was much nicer. Not being able to back out of the site will cause me to look elsewhere for my news.
Sometimes when it's new, it's hard to accept. I think the new site is clean and the video is cool. Relax people. Give it a chance. This is KING5, they know what they are doing
Not too sure on what to say. Maybe I just need a little time to get use to the new look and how to navigate around it. But for now, I am not too thrilled about it. I found the old site very friendly to use but I do like the additions to the new site. So, I guess there are good things about both sites. It might be best to try and take the good things from the old site, for example it was nice to see a little excerpt from a story before deciding to click on the link to read it. Right now with just the story headlines I lose interest in what's going on quickly and don't want to read further.
Thanks for all the great feedback so far - we're all reading them and considering what adjustments we'll make as we get used to the new design too.
That's the cool thing about the Web - some things are relatively easy to tweak in this ever-changing medium.
For you folks having issues with the font size, I apologize and I have a fix for you. At the top-right side of every page in the yellow bar is a "customize" link. Click that and choose a font size on that page that's more to your liking. While you're there, you can also change the colors of the site, if you want.
Hope this helps. Keep the feedback coming!
I don't like the new format. Looks like there is only 1 story worth viewing. I liked seeing the top 3 or 4 with pictures next to them. It was easier to quickly scan for the top stories of the day.
I really like how you've posted the current drive times on the front page! I also like the new layout but have to agree that nothing stands out making it hard to really find what you're looking for.
I don't like the new format, is far too wordy, has a very busy layout with no photos, and doesn't have a clear or visual organization.
I don't like the new format either. Too hard to distinguish between the different sections. The old format had better visual division of the different topics.
Could you have the 5 day weather on the top of the home page match what you see in the weather section? For example, right now on the home page, it shows rain Tuesday, high of 69, but the weather section shows party sunny Tuesday, high 72. Makes you wonder which one is correct.
It's been a minor annoyance the last few years, as sometimes they match, and other times they don't. Thanks Guys!!
I think the new site is terrible. It is much harder to navigate from story to story and to keep track of the most current news. You put to much text on the main page. Try doing a little research next time. Your site can be deep without terrifying the users on the first page. Hire a new lead web developer or have a few more meetings next time.
The new format is awful! I'm changing my home page.
I don't care for the new format. Not because it's a change, but because it's harder to navigate and contrary to your goal it's not easier to zero in on top stories. I'll be switching to KOMO for my instant updates on stories I'm interested in. KING was my first choice previously.
You call figuring out how to get around my pop-up blocker an improvement? I have changed my home page after 6 years. Didn't like the registration requirement, but got used to it by using false information. But pop-up advertising is unacceptable when you simply want the local news!
I don't like the new look. I liked to be able to see more pictures. The new look looks too cluttered to me.
I don't like the new site. Everything seems all jumbled together and nothing jumps out and says "READ ME!" The colors are gone and so is "Today in History" which, along with "Offbeat News", was one of my daily stops while the rest of my computer is occupied pulling reports.
I can't say that I love the new site. It lacks compartmentalization and seems flat. Registration has always irritated me, so I use false information.
If nothing else, that huge "VIDEO" button on the end of every link is distracting.
I don't like the new format either. It looks as if there is only one real story to look at. The other's are just listed, very wordy and hard to read. The old one was much easier to find things.
