Under I-5, adjacent to the Tulleys Coffee building, out of sight is the west approach where two tunnels will make their way approximately one mile under Beacon Hilll. Trains will enter and exit the tunnel going to and from Rainier valley. You can see the elevated platforms which the trains will use from their base to the downtown tunnels. On top of Beacon Hill you can see a big access hole, I read at Sound Transit's Web site that the the Tunnel Boring Machine has just arrived from Japan and will begin digging in the fall. All the the recent problems with the Monorail Project may leave you feeling that Puget Sound's transportation problems will never be solved. But as I look down from SkyKING I can see that progress is being made, the infrastructure is taking hold and one day trains carrying commuters in and out of Seattle's many communities will become a reality. Hopefully. 8 Comments |
