Michael King is working his way down here at 333 Dexter Avenue. He began on the top floor in 1995 at NorthWest Cable News where he anchored the morning news with his lovely wife Meg Coyle. Three years ago, he started showing up for work on the third floor, joining KING-TV as a sports reporter/anchor. Today, Michael finds himself wiping crud off an old desk in a windowless, street-level office that he will share with Senior Producer Joan Kinsey here at Evening Magazine... Michael, welcome to Evening Magazine and thanks for the cupcakes. You're welcome. I tried to appeal to all demographics. Spiderman cupcakes for the guys. Barbie cupcakes for the girls. "Appealing to demographics." You're already talking like an Evening Magazine guy. So why have you joined us here in this window-free office... and given up all those media passes to the Sonics, Mariners and Seahawks? Well, it's kind of a window I haven't looked out of before. I've been a sports guy forever... going all the way back to when I first got in the radio business at the age of 19. So this is a departure. A detour. And I'm fired up about it. Michael King, you work at the home of King Mike. There's no way that's your real name. It is. Everytime I tell people my name and where I work, they pause. They give me a funny look. No this is my real name. But I'd guess I'd have to change it if I move to KOMO. Did you really work for CNN International? Yeah, in Hong Kong for about two years. I got to brush up against a culture so different from ours. Amazing food. It was fascinating to be immersed in that for two years. And (I'm asking hopefully) we'll be seeing more of Meg down here. Absolutely. That's one of the added benefits. I'm sure at some point she'll figure out where I'm working. 1 Comments |
